The getaway driver for a violent robbery in Hythe has been sentenced to three years in prison. Boyd Williams, 22, of Albert Road, Hythe, drove two men to the town on May 13 last year in his black Ford Fiesta and dropped them off near the junction of Bank Street and the High Street. It was just after 11am when they assaulted a businessman, hitting him and punching him in the face and snatching two carrier bags with cash inside. However, it was not the robbers’ lucky day. First one of the bags split and had to be left behind; then, as they were trying to escape in Williams’ black Ford Fiesta, they were blocked by a lorry making a delivery to a shop in Dental Street. The trio fled the scene but Williams was arrested the next day. He admitted his role in the offence, but has never identified the other two men.
