Train services between Herne Bay and Ramsgate will be replaced by buses throughout the Easter weekend from Friday 3 to Monday 6 April.
Network Rail is carrying out essential track replacement engineering work between Herne Bay and Ramsgate during the Easter bank holiday period, closing all rail lines on all four days. Whilst most of the Southeastern railway network will continue operating normally, residents and visitors travelling in East Kent should expect significant disruption on this specific route.
The closure affects three main train lines serving the area. Trains on the Sole Street Line from London Victoria will only run as far as Herne Bay, whilst Highspeed services from London St Pancras will terminate at either Herne Bay or Ramsgate depending on the route. Additionally, some off-peak services between Faversham and St Pancras will not run at all on Good Friday and Easter Monday.
Accessible replacement buses will operate throughout the period, calling at all stations between Herne Bay and Ramsgate, with additional express services serving Birchington-on-Sea, Margate and Broadstairs. Off-peak fares will apply all day on Good Friday and Easter Monday, which may offer savings to some passengers. Southeastern Railway advises all passengers to check their journeys before travelling and to allow extra time for their trips.
The engineering works are essential maintenance to keep Kent’s railways running reliably for the future. Services are expected to resume normally on Tuesday 7 April.
