New Street in Sandwich will close at the level crossing from 28 March for up to three days whilst Network Rail SE undertakes essential rail works.
Kent County Council has made a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order to temporarily prohibit through traffic on New Street, Sandwich from 28 March 2026. The closure will be in place for up to three days or until works are completed, affecting the level crossing area.
The road will be closed at the level crossing between the hours indicated by signs and barriers on site. This is essential work being carried out by Network Rail SE to maintain rail infrastructure in the area.
Northbound traffic through Sandwich should use the following alternative route: Dover Road, Deal Road, A258 Deal Road, A256 Sandwich Bypass, Ash Road, Strand Street, High Street, The Chain, Galliard Street and New Street.
Southbound traffic should use: New Street, No Name Street, Delf Street, Market Street, The Butchery, Harnet Street, Strand Street, Ash Road, A256 Sandwich Bypass, A258 Deal Road, Deal Road and Dover Road.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the works. Residents are advised to plan alternative routes in advance and allow extra time for journeys through the area.
