A £1,000 fixed penalty notice issued after waste was dumped in Ashford town centre on 6 July 2026 has been paid, Ashford Borough Council said.

A £1,000 fixed penalty notice issued over a fly-tip in Ashford town centre has been paid, Ashford Borough Council said on 20 October 2026.

The council said waste was found in the town centre on Monday 6 July 2026. Its enforcement officers made enquiries that led to the penalty being issued. The council did not say who was fined or what the waste was.

Cllr Katrina Giles, the council’s portfolio holder for communities and health, said: “Although frustrating that this incident of fly tipping has occurred, I am pleased the council was able to apply a fixed penalty notice of £1000 in this case. It sends a clear message that we are committed to protecting our environment and keeping our community safe.”

Your duty of care for waste

Households and businesses have a legal duty of care for their waste. The council warns that fly-tippers often advertise cheap rubbish removal on social media or locally, then dump the waste, including in country lanes.

People who hand waste to an unlicensed carrier can face a fixed penalty of up to £600 for a duty of care offence, and anyone knowingly permitting fly-tipping can be fined up to £1,000 per offence, the council says. Failure to pay may lead to court action.
