Chatham van thief jailed within 24 hours after arrest during Maidstone pursuit

Keenan Fairclough appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 19 August 2026 and was jailed within 24 hours of the offence. He pleaded guilty to theft and driving offences including dangerous driving, and was sentenced to 12 months in prison plus a two-year driving disqualification with an extended re-test requirement, according to Kent Online.

Vehicle theft remains a widespread problem across England and Wales. The Office for National Statistics recorded 312,250 vehicle offences in the year ending March 2026, though that figure represented an 11% decrease on the previous year. Overall theft offences in England and Wales totalled 1.6 million in the same period, down 8% year on year.

The incident took place across two areas of Kent — Chatham in Medway and Maidstone — both within the Kent Police operational area.
