Dartford Dismantle Eastbourne Borough With Dominant Display

Dartford produced one of their most commanding performances of the Isthmian Premier season on Saturday, sweeping aside Eastbourne Borough 4-1 in a result that will have sent a clear message to the rest of the division. The Darts were ruthless, clinical, and largely in control throughout, with a first half that was as impressive as anything they have produced this campaign.

First Half Masterclass

Dartford wasted little time in making their intentions clear. D. Smith broke the deadlock on 15 minutes, giving the Darts an early foothold and setting the tone for what was to follow. The lead was well-deserved and the home side showed no signs of sitting back on it.

M. Fiddes then made it 2-0 on 26 minutes, adding a second goal that effectively began to put the game beyond Eastbourne Borough’s reach. The visitors, who arrived in Kent sitting third in the Isthmian Premier table, found themselves unable to cope with Dartford’s intensity and directness in the first half.

B. Greenhalgh extended the advantage to 3-0 on 34 minutes, and by the time Fiddes struck again just before the interval to make it 4-0, the contest was as good as over. Four goals in the first half, with no response from the visitors, represented a stunning 45 minutes of football from the Darts. Eastbourne Borough headed into the break with a mountain to climb.

Second Half Sees Borough Grab Consolation

The second half was a more measured affair, with Dartford understandably content to manage the game and protect their commanding lead. Eastbourne Borough, to their credit, kept working and were rewarded on 72 minutes when L. Nash pulled one back to make it 4-1. It was a consolation goal that did little to alter the overall picture, but it at least gave the visitors something to take back to the south coast. Dartford saw out the remainder of the second half without any further alarms, closing out a thoroughly professional victory.

Man of the Match: M. Fiddes

There could be only one candidate for the man of the match award on this occasion. M. Fiddes was outstanding from start to finish, contributing two goals in a first half that left Eastbourne Borough shellshocked. His first, on 26 minutes, doubled Dartford’s lead at a crucial moment in the game, and his second, tucked away just before half-time to make it 4-0, was the moment that truly killed the contest. Fiddes was a constant threat and his contribution was central to everything positive that Dartford produced on the day.

What It Means For Dartford

The result carries real significance in the context of the Isthmian Premier table. Dartford currently sit fifth on 27 points from 15 matches played, level on points with fourth-placed Lewes, who also have 27 points from 15 played. Crucially, this victory came directly against third-placed Eastbourne Borough, who had arrived on 31 points from 14 played. The Darts have demonstrated emphatically that they are capable of matching and beating the sides above them in the table, and this performance will do their confidence no harm whatsoever as the season continues to take shape.
