Dartford Borough Council has brought together environmental, housing and public health reporting into one digital “Report a problem” service.
Fly tipping, rat infestations, graffiti, dodgy takeaways — it’s all in there. The portal covers six broad areas: rubbish and recycling, streets and the environment, housing services, parking, council tax and benefits, and a catch-all category for everything else.
The environmental section is the most wide-ranging. Alongside the obvious stuff — noise complaints, odours, dust, bonfires — residents can flag discarded nitrous oxide canisters (those small silver bottles you’ll recognise from park benches and car parks). Pest problems are covered whether the infestation is in your own home or next door’s, and dead animals in streets or gardens can be reported through the same route.
Food hygiene concerns about pubs, cafés, restaurants and shops can go through the portal too.
Council tenants get their own dedicated section. Repairs, communal area cleaning, suspected tenancy fraud, empty properties, houses in multiple occupation — it’s broader than it might first appear.
One thing it won’t handle: roads and pavements. That’s Kent County Council’s patch, and the portal points you there rather than taking the report itself. Rough sleeping is similarly dealt with separately from reports of unauthorised encampments involving travellers, caravans or vehicles.
