Drink-driver sentenced after reaching 134mph on M20
A drink-driver who reached 134mph on the M20 motorway has been sentenced, Kent Police has announced.
Kent Police reported the case on social media. No further details about the defendant’s name, age, the court that heard the case, or the sentence imposed were available from verified sources at the time of publication.
The legal drink-drive limit in England and Wales is 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, according to UK Government guidance. Under the Sentencing Council’s framework, driving or attempting to drive with excess alcohol carries a maximum penalty of six months’ custody and an unlimited fine, with a driving disqualification of at least 12 months normally imposed on conviction. The court determines the sentence according to the alcohol level recorded and any aggravating or mitigating factors present in the case. Excessive speed can be treated as an aggravating factor, though the sentence imposed depends on the specific offences proved and the court’s assessment.
