Editorial Guidelines
Kent Local News Editorial Standards
Kent Local News is regulated by IMPRESS, the independent press regulator recognised by the Press Recognition Panel. We adhere to the IMPRESS Standards Code in full.
Accuracy and corrections
We strive for accuracy in all reporting. Where errors occur, corrections are made promptly with a transparent update note. Readers can request corrections via editor@kentlocalnews.co.uk.
Sources
We attribute every factual claim to its source. We use named sources where possible and clearly label any anonymous sourcing with the reason for anonymity. Documents, FOIA references and official records are cited inline so readers can verify our reporting.
Right of reply
Subjects of investigative reporting are offered a reasonable right of reply before publication where practicable, with a clear deadline for response.
Distinction between news, analysis and opinion
News reporting, analysis and opinion are clearly distinguished within and across articles. Investigations and editorials are labelled as such.
Conflicts of interest
Material conflicts of interest are disclosed inline. Editorial decisions are made independently of any commercial relationships, advertising arrangements, or political affiliations.
Children and vulnerable people
We follow IMPRESS Standards Code Clause 7 on the protection of children. Children under 16 are not identified in stories that could affect their welfare without explicit consent from a parent or guardian, and even then only where there is a clear public interest.
Authorship and transparency
Articles are bylined to a named author or to the Kent Local News editorial team. Author biographies and editorial team information are available on our About Us page.
AI-assisted content
Where artificial intelligence tools are used to assist in research, drafting or summarisation, all output is reviewed and edited by a human journalist before publication. We do not publish unedited AI-generated content. Where an article relies materially on AI-derived data analysis, we disclose this.
Funding and independence
Kent Local News is independently owned and operated by NHNN Ltd. We do not accept editorial direction from advertisers, sponsors, political parties or government bodies. Our reporting is determined solely by our editorial team and the public interest.
Complaints
In the first instance, complaints should be addressed to editor@kentlocalnews.co.uk. We aim to respond within 5 working days.
Unresolved complaints can be escalated to IMPRESS at impress.press/complaints. IMPRESS provides an independent, free complaints process for matters covered by the IMPRESS Standards Code.
