Joshua Kerry, 28, who is already awaiting trial for the murder of former Maidstone MP Ann Widdecombe, has been charged with preparing acts of terrorism, including against Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
The Crown Prosecution Service announced on 2 October 2026 that it had authorised a charge against Joshua Kerry, of Byrley Road, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, of one count of preparation of terrorist acts, contrary to section 5(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2006. The offence covers preparing to commit an act of terrorism, whether or not any act is carried out.
The alleged preparations, which the CPS says included conduct directed against Nigel Farage MP, are said to have taken place between 31 May 2024 and 8 July 2026.
Kerry is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 7 October 2026.
Kerry was charged on 20 July 2026 with the murder of Ann Widdecombe, 78, who was found dead at her home near Haytor on Dartmoor on 9 July. He was remanded in custody to appear at the Central Criminal Court, the Old Bailey.
Ms Widdecombe represented Maidstone, and later Maidstone and The Weald, in the House of Commons from 1987 to 2010, and served as a minister under John Major. In later years she was a spokeswoman for Reform UK.
Kerry was first arrested on suspicion of murder on 11 July 2026 and was further arrested on 13 July on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
Criminal proceedings are active. All charges are allegations, and Kerry is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
