A Maidstone man has been remanded in custody after allegedly threatening residents with a weapon in a Sittingbourne street. Ben Bignall, 43, of Hampshire Drive, Maidstone, faces four charges: affray, assault on an emergency worker, driving offences and failing to provide specimens when requested. He is due to appear before Maidstone Crown Court on 17 August 2026.
Kent Police were called to Elm Grove on 20 July 2026 after reports of a man making threats with a weapon. According to police, the suspect had left the scene by the time officers arrived. It is then alleged he returned in a car and began driving erratically in the area. After being detained, he is further alleged to have become aggressive and violent towards the officers dealing with him.
No findings of guilt have been made. Bignall is entitled to contest all charges when the matter is heard.
