Oliver Dryden, 30, of Orpington, was sentenced to two years and three months at Maidstone Crown Court after pleading guilty to racially abusing and beating a taxi driver on Crossways Boulevard, Dartford, following a minor road collision in January 2025.
Dryden was jailed on 11 August 2026 after admitting three charges: racially aggravated assault, racially aggravated damage to property, and affray. It started, as these things sometimes do, with something trivial — a minor collision on 15 January 2025, both drivers pulling over to swap details.
What happened next was anything but trivial. Dryden, who had been sitting in the front passenger seat of the Peugeot involved, got out and attacked the taxi driver without warning. He punched the victim in the chest, face and jaw, dragged him to the ground, then kicked him in the face and stamped on his head repeatedly — all while racially abusing him. When bystanders tried to step in, Dryden threw an object at the taxi and punched its window before fleeing ahead of police arriving.
All of this in broad daylight, on Crossways Boulevard, in front of multiple witnesses.
He was found in a pub in Bromley. Arrested seven days later, on 22 January 2025.
PC Ellie Boden, the investigating officer, said, according to Kent Police: “This was a completely unprovoked attack on an innocent man. The assault was carried out in broad daylight and in front of several witnesses. The victim was also subjected to racist abuse, which makes Dryden’s actions all the more unacceptable.”
Dryden, of Doveney Close, Orpington, pleaded guilty to all three charges at an earlier hearing before being sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court.
