Medway Council launches online hub for arts, heritage and culture

Medway Council’s new web hub brings together theatre bookings, heritage funding links, event listings and support for artists and creative groups across Medway.

Medway Council has built a single online page pulling together arts, culture and heritage information for residents, visitors and creative organisations across the area. Book theatre tickets, find historic places, browse what’s on — all without clicking between a dozen different sites.

The Rochester Corn Exchange gets prominent billing as “a unique venue located in the heart of Rochester”, pitched at couples planning weddings, businesses holding functions and anyone organising parties or musical events.

There’s a dedicated section covering the Medway Heritage Place project, which connects local groups to funding and event opportunities through the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Heritage Places initiative. Groups in Medway can follow those links to see what support’s on offer.

Creative Medway, the Cultural Compact driving Medway’s Cultural Strategy, features with details on how artists and organisations can get involved in shaping the area’s cultural direction. The page also flags that publicly funded bodies, professional organisations, trusts and foundations are offering advice and support to creative practitioners, though it doesn’t name them individually.

Visit Medway points users to a what’s-on listing for events across the area. And there’s an archive of past arts festivals and events — a quiet but useful record of what’s come before.

The Medway Arts Team is inviting people to sign up to a regular e-newsletter for culture and heritage updates. A feedback form at the foot of the page — asking whether the information is actually useful — flags categories including out-of-date content, broken links and material that’s hard to find or understand.
