Motorhome bays at Royal Harbour Approach
Officers put forward a proposal to introduce five pay-and-display parking bays specifically for motorhomes at Royal Harbour Approach, Ramsgate. The report stated that free parking for cars and motorcycles would be maintained at the site. The proposal was one of several items on which the board was asked to make recommendations before any statutory consultation takes place.
New waiting restrictions across the district
A range of new no-waiting restrictions at various locations across Thanet were also put before the board. Officers said the proposals had arisen from requests by residents and councillors and were intended to improve sightlines, ease access for emergency vehicles and reduce obstructions. The report noted that introducing double yellow lines on junctions for ten metres either side — known as corner protections — opens up sightlines and makes it safer to enter and exit junctions.
Officers recommended that any proposals approved by the board would then proceed to statutory public consultation under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, with objections to be brought back to the board for a further decision. The report confirmed that no additional staffing resources were proposed and that costs would be met from existing budgets.
Residents’ permit zones under consideration for Margate
Two potential new residents’ permit zones in Margate were also included in the papers, one covering the Byron Avenue and Poets’ Corner area and one covering the area around Margate train station and Westbrook. Both were presented for information only. Officers stated that Thanet District Council would first undertake an informal engagement process with residents in each proposed zone before deciding whether to proceed to formal consultation or end the process.
The council had not published the minutes of the meeting at the time of writing, so the committee’s decision is not yet on the public record.
