The New England Journal of Medicine (@NEJM) has shared findings from the MonumenTAL-3 trial, a phase 3 study — meaning a large-scale test in human patients, the stage before a drug can typically be approved for routine use — examining whether adding talquetamab to existing treatment improves survival and response rates in people with multiple myeloma (a type of blood cancer affecting plasma cells in the bone marrow) who had already undergone previous treatment.
Talquetamab is a bispecific antibody, a drug designed to attach to two different targets at once — in this case, directing the body’s immune cells to attack cancer cells. The MonumenTAL-3 trial is specifically focused on patients whose myeloma had returned or stopped responding to earlier therapies, a group for whom treatment options can be limited.
