According to the company’s own benchmarks, Astra scores 72.6% on OSWorld 2.0 — a standard test for AI computer-use performance — at around 40 minutes per task. GPT-5.6 Sol managed 65.7% at roughly 75 minutes per task. That works out to about 47% less time per task on the same benchmark, according to OpenAI.

On Mind2Web, a benchmark focused on web-based tasks, Astra completes tasks 1.9 times faster than the current GPT-5.6 Sol experience, again according to OpenAI’s own figures. These numbers haven’t been independently verified by an external UK or international body, so it’s worth reading them as OpenAI’s claims rather than settled fact.

Reuters also quoted OpenAI on some more everyday examples. A cat-sitter research task that might take a human around 30 minutes was completed by Astra in 5 minutes and 27 seconds. A job-search task that would typically take five hours was done in 2 minutes and 51 seconds. Those are striking demonstrations — though they’re OpenAI’s own figures, shown under conditions the company controls.

Who Gets Access First

The rollout is staged and deliberate. According to TechCrunch’s reporting, Astra is going first to customers in OpenAI’s Daybreak programme — a cybersecurity-focused access scheme — before being made available to paid plan subscribers on Pro, Plus, Enterprise and Business tiers, and through OpenAI’s API.

OpenAI says this sequencing is informed by its Preparedness Framework, an internal policy document the company uses to assess risk before releasing more capable models. The most advanced cybersecurity functions, in particular, are being kept on a shorter leash at launch.

The broader debate about agentic AI safety isn’t new, but Astra lands in the middle of it.
