Prostate Cancer Drug Trial Shows Promise Before and After Surgery, Journal Reports

The New England Journal of Medicine posted details of the PROTEUS trial on its official account, sharing findings on perioperative apalutamide — a hormone-blocking drug (androgen receptor inhibitor) given both before and after surgical removal of the prostate (radical prostatectomy) in patients whose cancer carries a high risk of spreading. The trial is classified as phase 3, meaning it tests a treatment in a large group of patients to confirm effectiveness and monitor side effects.
