Ramsgate Road footpath works in Margate to start in October

Pedestrians, residents, school pupils and hospital staff using Ramsgate Road in Margate will face disruption from early October as Kent County Council replaces worn and uneven sections of footpath along the route. Work is expected to take around eight weeks, with completion due on 28 November 2026.

Contractors will strip out the existing surface, rebuild where the ground beneath has deteriorated, and lay new asphalt. Vehicle crossing points will be renewed and granite kerbs reset where needed. The scheme has been split into five short phases so that only a small stretch is affected at any one time.

Lane closures and traffic management will be in place throughout, with signed diversions for drivers. But pedestrians won’t be cut off. Temporary footways and crossing points will include ramps and widths suitable for wheelchair users, mobility scooter users and people with pushchairs, and a traffic-management operative will be on site from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday. The contractor will inspect temporary signs, barriers and ramps twice daily.

The five phases run as follows:

• Phase 1: 5–14 October — St Peter’s Road to Connaught Road
• Phase 2: 15–19 October — St Peter’s Road to Queen’s Avenue (west side)
• Phase 3: 19 October–1 November — Queen’s Avenue to College Road (west side)
• Phase 4: 2–15 November — College Road to Perkins Avenue (east side)
• Phase 5: 16–28 November — St Augustine’s Avenue to Nash Road (west side)

Normal working hours are 7am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Residents and businesses along the route have already been notified.
