Canterbury City Council has secured £270,000 from the government’s Playground Fund to revamp play areas at Central Parade seafront, Collins Road in Greenhill, and Honeysuckle Way in Broomfield.
Three of Herne Bay’s play areas are set for a major overhaul after Canterbury City Council secured £270,000 from the government’s Playground Fund. The money covers the seafront site at Central Parade, Collins Road in Greenhill, and Honeysuckle Way in Broomfield.
The council has already held in-person consultations at all three sites to find out what residents and visitors would like to see in the improved play areas. That feedback is now shaping the design brief for each location ahead of the tender process, which is due to start this autumn to find a play company to provide and install the new equipment.
Cllr Mel Dawkins, Cabinet member for open spaces, said: “This is more good news for children and families in Herne Bay as we continue our work to upgrade the town’s play equipment. Last week we started work on an upgrade and expansion of the play area at the Memorial Park, and now hot on the heels of that we hear of this successful funding bid to pay for improvements at three more sites. It’s a massive well done to our officers who turned round this bid at very short notice and have done a fantastic job. We now have lots of work to do behind the scenes to get this project moving forward and we will keep residents updated on progress in the months to come.”
Work on a separate upgrade and expansion of the play area at Memorial Park began last week, meaning two distinct projects are now running in parallel across the town. The council has promised to keep residents updated as things progress.
