Tonbridge drug dealer jailed after 30 vials of cocaine found in hidden compartment
A Maidstone man has been sentenced to prison following the discovery of cocaine concealed in a sophisticated ‘hide’ during a proactive vehicle stop in Tonbridge.
A drug dealer has been jailed after Kent Police officers discovered 30 vials of cocaine hidden in a concealed compartment during a vehicle stop in Tonbridge.
Georgi Spasov, aged 39 and from Maidstone, was arrested on 6 December 2023 when officers stopped a car in Vale Road, Tonbridge. According to Kent Police, officers on proactive patrol became suspicious of the vehicle and its occupants.
During a search of the vehicle, officers uncovered the cocaine contained in 30 individual vials within what police described as a sophisticated concealment unit or ‘hide’. The drugs were seized at the scene.
The Court Proceedings
Spasov was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to supply and possession of criminal property. He appeared at Maidstone Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to both offences.
The case proceeded to sentencing, with Spasov receiving a custodial sentence for his role in the drug supply operation. Cocaine is classified as a Class A controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, with possession with intent to supply carrying a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and an unlimited fine.
Police Operations and Methods
The arrest formed part of Kent Police’s ongoing operations to target Class A drug supply and county lines activity across the county. Officers routinely conduct proactive vehicle stops as part of intelligence-led operations to tackle drug distribution networks.
Drug dealers frequently employ ‘hides’ or concealed compartments within vehicles to transport drugs and cash while attempting to evade detection. These concealment units can be installed behind dashboards, under seats, or within vehicle panels.
Kent Police released body-worn video footage of the stop and subsequent discovery, showing the methods used by officers to identify suspicious behaviour and uncover concealed drugs.
Regional Context
Tonbridge’s position on key road and rail routes makes it a location of interest for drug distribution networks. The National Crime Agency has reported increases in county lines drug dealing models, where urban dealers supply drugs into smaller towns across Kent using vehicles and public transport.
The case represents one of multiple operations in which Kent Police have discovered vehicle hides containing Class A drugs as part of their strategy to disrupt supply chains. Maidstone Crown Court regularly handles serious drug supply cases arising across this part of Kent.
