Kent County Council’s Adult Cycle Training programme now has a base at Victoria Park in Jemmett Road, Ashford, which will also host Bikeability holiday club sessions for children.
Victoria Park in Ashford has become a hub for cycle training under a new partnership between Kent County Council (KCC) and Ashford Borough Council (ABC), the county council said on 20 October 2026.
The park in Jemmett Road is now the operational base for KCC’s Adult Cycle Training programme. The move follows the loss of KCC’s previous cycle storage facility at Henwood. KCC said the two councils had worked together to create a long-term facility for training and wider active travel, rather than simply replacing the storage.
Who the sessions are for
The park will host adult cycle training for people learning to ride for the first time, people returning to cycling after many years and people who want more confidence on the roads.
It will also be used for Bikeability holiday club sessions, which teach children cycling skills and road awareness.
Part of Ashford’s active travel plans
ABC has set up a cross-party Active Travel Steering Group to look at how walking and cycling can be improved across the borough. The council says this has led to existing routes being resurfaced, new ones being planned and several new secure bike shelters around the borough.
Spencer Dixon, KCC’s Deputy Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “Victoria Park is a great location for this cycle hub and we’re pleased to be working with ABC to create a long-term home for these activities. I hope this location will make it easier for residents of all ages to access support and develop skills they can take forward with them.”
Cllr Guy Pullen, ABC’s Cabinet Member for Parks and Recreation, said the borough council was “working really hard behind the scenes to make the Ashford borough a more cycle-friendly place”.
