Pedro Acosta claimed victory at the Austrian Motorcycle Grand Prix on Sunday, 20 September 2026, delivering a commanding performance at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Styria, to take the chequered flag in a time of 42 minutes and 16.996 seconds. Jorge Martín crossed the line in second place, 1.017 seconds adrift, with Marco Bezzecchi completing the podium a further 0.192 seconds behind in third. The result marked round 15 of the 2026 FIM Grand Prix motorcycle racing season.

Acosta’s path to victory was far from straightforward. Having suffered a crash whilst leading Saturday’s Sprint and a further fall during the morning warm-up session, the young Spaniard initially dropped back through the field before mounting a determined charge. He moved past championship leader Jorge Martín on lap nine of 28 and thereafter produced a flawless display to hold the position to the finish. Martín, unable to respond, was ultimately held at a margin of just over one second, whilst Bezzecchi’s late pressure proved insufficient to dislodge the Argentinian from the final podium place. Ai Ogura produced a notable result in fourth place, finishing 2.139 seconds behind the winner to narrowly miss out on a podium. Marc Márquez rounded out the top five at 7.339 seconds, with Brad Binder sixth at 8.720 seconds. Francesco Bagnaia recovered to seventh, 9.686 seconds off the pace, whilst Fermín Aldeguer took eighth. Fabio Di Giannantonio and Johann Zarco completed the top ten, the latter crossing the line 16.266 seconds behind Acosta. No British riders featured within the top ten, and the classification therefore requires no specific domestic focus.

The victory represents a landmark moment for Acosta, marking his first premier-class triumph and delivering a significant result for his team at a circuit closely associated with their principal backer. The win will provide considerable momentum as the championship enters its closing stages, with Martín’s second-place finish ensuring the title battle remains very much alive heading into the remaining rounds. The midfield classification, stretching to 22 classified finishers, underlines the competitive depth of the current field. The MotoGP paddock will now turn its attention to the next round of the 2026 season.
