Jorge Martín claimed victory in the Austrian MotoGP Sprint Race at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Styria, on Saturday, 19 September 2026, in a dramatic conclusion to round fifteen of the season. The Aprilia rider crossed the line in a total time of 20 minutes and 57.387 seconds, with Marc Márquez finishing 1.026 seconds adrift in second place. Marco Bezzecchi completed the podium, a further 0.649 seconds behind Márquez.

Starting from pole position, Martín endured a difficult opening phase, dropping back through the field before mounting a determined recovery. By lap eight he had fought his way past Marc Márquez to reclaim second place, showcasing the pace that had earned him pole. The race took a decisive turn with three laps remaining when Pedro Acosta, who had been leading, crashed out from first place at Turn 12, handing the advantage to Martín, who duly converted the opportunity to take the win. Francesco Bagnaia, a prominent figure in the championship picture, could manage only sixth place, crossing the line 5.142 seconds off the pace. Johann Zarco and Fermín Aldeguer followed in seventh and eighth respectively, separated by less than a second, whilst Brad Binder and Fabio Di Giannantonio completed the top ten. No British riders featured within the top ten classifications.

The result carries considerable significance for Martín’s championship campaign. The victory, secured in dramatic fashion following Acosta’s retirement, moves the Aprilia rider three points clear of Marc Márquez in the overall standings, tightening what appears to be a closely contested title battle. For Martín, the ability to recover from a difficult position mid-race and capitalise on the late turn of events will provide considerable encouragement as the season enters its latter stages. The MotoGP paddock now turns its attention to the next round of the 2026 world championship.
