Kent County Council is backing a Government-funded scheme giving free bus travel to children and teenagers across the county from 1 to 31 August 2026.
Any child aged 15 or under can travel on a participating bus anywhere in Kent for free this August. The offer runs for the whole of the school summer holiday month as part of the Government’s Great British Summer Savings scheme, which is operating across England.
Six operators are taking part in Kent: Fastrack, Arriva, Stagecoach, NuVenture, Chalkwell and GoAhead. Free travel only applies on those specific services, so it is worth checking the relevant operator’s website before you travel.
Spencer Dixon, KCC’s Deputy Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “We’re pleased to support this Government-funded initiative, which gives children and young people aged 15 and under the opportunity to travel by bus for free throughout August. As well as helping families save money during the school holidays, free bus travel makes it easier for young people to access activities, attractions and days out across Kent. It’s a great way to encourage more people to use public transport, helping build confidence in bus travel while supporting more sustainable journeys across the county.”
KCC says the scheme should help families cut costs during the holidays and make it easier for young people to reach activities, attractions and days out around the county. For families planning a trip to the coast or visiting attractions this summer, the saving is available from 1 August.
