Dartford Borough Council’s postcode-based “Check Bin Collections” tool lets households across the borough find their next refuse and recycling dates and any changes to their usual schedule.
Households in Dartford can now look up their bin collection days, check for delays and report missed collections through a single online form. Type in your postcode and the tool returns your next scheduled dates for both refuse and recycling — bank holiday changes included.
The weekly refuse collection carries on as normal across all domestic properties in the borough. Every household gets one 180-litre green wheeled bin, emptied weekly. It needs to be at the front boundary of your property by 6am on collection day. No room for a wheeled bin? A limited number of black sacks instead. Side waste left next to the bin generally won’t be touched.
Flats and properties that can’t accommodate a wheeled bin get communal ones. And elderly or disabled residents who struggle to bring their bin to the front boundary can arrange an alternative collection point with the council — the crew will collect from wherever’s been agreed.
Garden waste no longer goes in household refuse. Dartford residents needing to shift garden material are pointed towards separate garden-waste services or the Dartford Household Waste Recycling Centre on Dartford Heath. Run by Kent County Council, it’s open seven days a week. The permit scheme that previously applied there ended in April 2023; it’s now a booking system, with a charge for anyone coming from outside Kent.
The tool also flags what can and cannot go in each bin. Worth knowing: batteries and gas canisters must not go into household refuse — for the safety of collection crews as much as anything else.
