Dartford town centre PSPO renewal: public consultation closes 11 October

The order covers a broad area of Dartford town centre, including the High Street, Hythe Street, Lowfield Street, Market Place, the Priory Centre and some adjoining streets and locations. Under its terms, people within the restricted area must not consume alcohol or intoxicating substances in public, litter, urinate or defecate outside toilet facilities, swear, shout or act in a threatening manner, or behave in a way likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress. Riding e-scooters in the main pedestrian area is banned at all times.

Dartford Borough Council’s enforcement records show 25 PSPO breaches for consuming alcohol or drugs in the town centre over the relevant reporting period. Breaches can result in a fixed penalty notice of £100 or potential court action.

The council states it complies with statutory consultation and notice requirements when making or renewing PSPOs. A previous borough-wide consultation on a separate nuisance vehicle PSPO drew 234 responses, with around 94% of respondents supporting the order.
