Folkestone & Hythe District Council will waive charges in its car parks and on-street pay-and-display bays on 5, 12 and 19 December.
Parking charges at Folkestone & Hythe District Council car parks and on-street pay-and-display bays will be waived on the three Saturdays before Christmas, on 5, 12 and 19 December 2026. The scheme covers council car parks and on-street bays across Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh, and is intended to support the local economy.
Cllr Polly Blakemore, Cabinet Member for Transport, Regulatory Services and Building Control, said: “This is a wonderful incentive encouraging shoppers to visit the district’s high streets for all their festive needs, while also helping the local economy. It’s an important time of year to support our huge range of independent traders, as well as bigger brands – so be sure to utilise our car parks if you’re driving into town.”
Restrictions that still apply
Controlled parking and limited waiting restrictions will remain in force on all three free Saturdays. The council says these restrictions allow residents to park close to their homes and ensure spaces turn over throughout the day.
Separately, the council offers a Residents’ Discount Parking Permit for use in council-run car parks throughout the year. An annual permit costs £80 and a quarterly permit costs £20. Both allow three hours in long-term car parks and two hours in short-term car parks. Terms and conditions apply.
Full permit terms and conditions are available on the Folkestone & Hythe District Council website. For further information about the free parking initiative, contact the council at communications@folkestone-hythe.gov.uk.
