Obianata Onyia, 30, was sentenced to four years and three months at Maidstone Crown Court on 16 July 2026 after admitting seven counts of sexual assault against a child.
Onyia, a former resident of New Ash Green in the Sevenoaks area, initially pleaded not guilty before changing his plea. Kent Police said he had targeted the same victim repeatedly during the early 2020s. He was arrested in December 2023 after the child reported the abuse to a family member, who then contacted police.
He will serve a further three years and nine months on licence after his release. The court also imposed a 10-year restraining order barring any contact with the victim, a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and placement on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
Police Staff Investigator Becki Pike at Kent Police described Onyia as “an appalling criminal” who had “targeted a child multiple times” and said he had “showed no remorse” for his actions or the trauma caused. She said the victim had shown “enormous courage” in reporting what had happened and in assisting throughout the investigation and criminal proceedings.
Kent Police urged anyone who has experienced sexual abuse to come forward, saying specially trained officers are there to listen, provide support, and seek to bring offenders to justice.
