A man in his 30s was allegedly assaulted and had his phone stolen near the High Street in Tunbridge Wells at around 11.45pm on Saturday 25 July 2026, after a group of teenagers joined him and a friend on their walk through the town centre.
Kent Police are appealing for witnesses after a reported robbery in Tunbridge Wells town centre late on Saturday 25 July 2026. According to Kent Police, the victim and a friend were walking from Chapel Place towards the High Street when a group of teenagers – unknown to either of them – fell into step alongside them. They continued together as far as the junction of Mount Sion and the High Street, where one of the group asked the victim to follow their business on social media.
As the victim took out his phone to do so, it is alleged that some members of the group assaulted him and stole his phone. The suspects are described as black males aged between 16 and 20, who fled the scene. One 16-year-old was subsequently detained and has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Officers believe members of the public were in the area at the time and may have witnessed the incident. Anyone who was in Chapel Place, Mount Sion or the High Street that night is asked to check private CCTV or dashcam footage. The investigation is ongoing.
