Kent Police impose 48-hour dispersal orders across five east Kent coastal towns

Section 34 powers activated in Whitstable, Herne Bay, Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Margate from 4pm on Friday 17 July 2026, giving officers authority to move on and arrest those engaged in antisocial behaviour.

Kent Police have activated Section 34 dispersal orders across five east Kent coastal towns, running from 4pm on Friday 17 July 2026 for 48 hours. The orders cover Whitstable, Herne Bay, Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Margate, and give officers enhanced powers to move people who are seen to be carrying out nuisance behaviour away from the area, according to Kent Police.

Anyone told to leave who comes back within the time limit risks arrest.

The orders are being used alongside high-visibility patrols as visitor numbers build along the coast through summer.

Chief Inspector Ian Swallow, Chief Inspector for Thanet, said officers “won’t hesitate to take action” and would tackle unwanted behaviour “head on”. He added that the orders would continue to be used across popular beaches and coastal towns to ensure they are enjoyed responsibly and safely, and that officers would remain visible throughout the summer months.

The stated aim, according to Kent Police, is that residents and visitors should be able to enjoy the coast responsibly and safely.
