Detectives want to identify a woman seen visiting Baby April’s grave at Bybrook Cemetery in Ashford on 21 June 2026, as the case of a newborn found dead at Singleton Lake in 1995 remains unsolved.
Kent Police have released a computer-generated image of a woman they want to trace in connection with the Baby April investigation. She was seen at the child’s graveside at Bybrook Cemetery in Ashford between 2pm and 3pm on Sunday 21 June 2026, and appeared to be distressed.
Baby April was found dead at Singleton Lake in Ashford on 3 April 1995 — a case that has never been solved. The newborn, whose estimated date of birth fell between 25 March and 3 April 1995, weighed 7lbs and had been wrapped in a Kleenex tissue bag placed inside a Motaworld bag. Detectives believe she died of asphyxiation. Thirty years on, her parents and relatives have never been identified.
Police exhumed the child’s body at Bybrook Cemetery in May 2011 to obtain a full DNA profile, but it did not lead to any major breakthrough in the investigation.
Following continuing enquiries this year, officers have issued a computer-generated image composed from sightings of the woman at the graveside. They would like to identify her as she may be able to assist the investigation.
The woman is described as white, in her 40s, no taller than 5ft 7in, of medium to slim build, with a pale complexion and grey shoulder-length hair. She was wearing a grey short cardigan, trainers and black leggings. She was also believed to be carrying two bags — a small shoulder bag and a women’s fabric holdall featuring a floral pattern, worn across her body and appearing quite full.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber said: “Baby April was named after the month she was born. Despite ongoing enquiries since that time, her parents and true identity to this date have never been found. We believe it is important to find the truth behind this tragic story and this woman might have information which could assist us in finding that. Can you help?”
