Maidstone Borough Council’s fortnightly update, issued on 25 September 2026, covers everything from a sustainable pothole-repair trial to formal concerns over a proposed quarry expansion.
Three new pocket parks have opened in Maidstone town centre — hard-surfaced ground turned green, essentially — with the council saying the sites are designed to support wildlife, boost climate resilience and make the town centre somewhere people actually want to be.
On the paths, the council is running a trial with sustainable materials company RECOOL that uses recycled clothing to help repair potholes in Maidstone’s parks. Exactly how big the trial is, or how long it runs, wasn’t spelled out in the bulletin. Which is a shame, because it’s the sort of thing people would want to know.
The cabinet has formally agreed a response to Kent County Council’s consultation on the draft Kent Mineral Sites Plan, raising concerns about the proposed expansion of Hermitage Quarry. That response will now be submitted as part of the examination process.
Maidstone Borough Council and Homes England — described in the bulletin as the government’s housing and regeneration agency — have been inviting residents to view updated proposals for Heathlands Garden Community and put questions to the team ahead of an outline planning application. Separately, a 2026 survey is seeking public views on the future of Lockmeadow. The bulletin also flagged the council’s ongoing work on violence against women and girls and progress on temporary accommodation — though no figures were attached to either.
