Podium

Max Verstappen claimed victory at the Mexico City Grand Prix on Sunday, 1 November 2026, delivering a commanding performance at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez to take the chequered flag in a race time of two hours, twenty minutes and 28.772 seconds. Lewis Hamilton crossed the line in second place, 0.799 seconds adrift, with Andrea Kimi Antonelli completing the podium in third for Mercedes. Charles Leclerc finished fourth for Ferrari, whilst Lando Norris rounded out the top five for McLaren.
Verstappen’s victory was all the more notable given that he started from fifth on the grid, advancing three positions to take the win ahead of Hamilton, who had begun the race from pole position. The most striking recovery of the afternoon came from Liam Lawson, who climbed from twenty-second on the grid to ninth at the flag — a gain of thirteen places — to secure a points finish for RB F1 Team. Oscar Piastri similarly impressed, advancing from twelfth to seventh for McLaren, gaining five positions across the course of the race. Hamilton set the fastest lap of the afternoon, though this carries no additional championship points under current regulations. George Russell, who had started from second on the grid, slipped to sixth by the finish, with Antonelli and Leclerc both passing him during the race.
Lewis Hamilton provided the most prominent British storyline of the afternoon, having led the field away from pole position and ultimately finishing second — his highest result of the season. The Ferrari driver pushed Verstappen throughout and set the fastest lap of the race, demonstrating pace that will encourage the Scuderia. Lando Norris and George Russell also contributed to a strong showing for British drivers, finishing fifth and sixth respectively, though both slipped back from their qualifying positions during the grand prix.
In the Drivers’ Championship, Andrea Kimi Antonelli retains a commanding lead on 380 points, with Verstappen’s victory moving him to 261 points — a gap of 119 points to the championship leader. Hamilton climbs to 259 points in third, separated from Verstappen by just two points, ensuring the battle for second in the standings remains extremely close. In the Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes continue to lead on 630 points, with Ferrari second on 504 points and Red Bull third on 380 points. McLaren remain fourth on 371 points, leaving the fight for third in the constructors’ standings finely poised with several rounds remaining.
