A phase 3 clinical trial has found that tambotatug pelitecan improved outcomes for patients with small-cell lung cancer whose disease progressed after platinum-based chemotherapy.
The New England Journal of Medicine published results from the TAISHAN-302 trial, a phase 3 study examining tambotatug pelitecan — an antibody-drug conjugate (a targeted therapy that delivers cancer-killing medicine directly to tumour cells) — in patients with small-cell lung cancer (a fast-growing form of lung cancer that typically responds well to initial chemotherapy but often returns). The findings were presented at the World Conference on Lung Cancer 2026, organised by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer.
Small-cell lung cancer accounts for roughly 15 per cent of all lung cancer cases, according to the NHS. It spreads quickly and, for many patients, standard platinum-based chemotherapy eventually stops working — leaving limited options. This trial specifically targets that difficult second-line stage of treatment.
The TAISHAN-302 results add to a growing body of research into antibody-drug conjugates, which aim to reduce the wider damage caused by conventional chemotherapy by directing treatment more precisely at cancer cells. The New England Journal of Medicine is a peer-reviewed medical journal and one of the most widely cited in clinical medicine.
