Rainham sex offender jailed after superimposing faces of known people onto pornographic images

A registered sex offender from Rainham has been sentenced to three years in prison after police discovered he had used image-editing software to superimpose the faces of people known to him onto pornographic images, breaching the terms of a court order that explicitly prohibited him from using such software.

The man, who lives on Station Road, Rainham, had previous convictions for possessing and making indecent images of children and possessing an extreme pornographic image, dating back to 2013. As part of an earlier sentence, he had been made subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order prohibiting him from using image or video editing software and from possessing any device capable of storing digital images unless made available for police inspection.

Officers carried out an unannounced visit to his home address and found a USB stick hidden beneath his pillow. A mobile phone and tablet were also seized, both containing image-editing applications.

Forensic examination of the devices identified indecent images of children, extreme pornographic images and digitally altered photographs in which the faces of people known to the offender had been superimposed onto pornographic images. He was charged with making indecent images of children, possessing extreme pornography, creating non-consensual intimate images, breaching the Sexual Offences Prevention Order and failing to comply with notification requirements under the sex offenders register.

He pleaded guilty to all offences at an earlier hearing and was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment at Maidstone Crown Court. He remains subject to sex offender notification requirements and ongoing monitoring by police following his release.
