Train services resumed on 2 November 2026 after Network Rail spent five days stabilising a stretch of embankment near Godstone where ground movement had been detected beneath the tracks.
The railway line linking Redhill in Surrey to Tonbridge in Kent reopened on 2 November 2026 following emergency repair works that had kept it closed since 28 October. Network Rail installed 208 sheet piles along a 126-metre section of embankment near Godstone to stabilise the ground and make the line safe for trains to run again.
Ground movement beneath the tracks triggered the closure, with engineers moving in to prevent further deterioration. Rail replacement buses covered the route throughout the five-day shutdown.
Services have now returned to normal following completion of the stabilisation work.
