Connor Jones, 38, of Shelley Avenue, Canterbury, faces four theft counts, two assault charges, a public order offence and racially aggravated harassment after alleged incidents across Canterbury, Herne Bay and Whitstable.
A Canterbury man has been remanded in custody after being charged with eight offences linked to a string of alleged thefts from supermarkets and shops across east Kent. Connor Jones, 38, of Shelley Avenue, appeared before Margate Magistrates’ Court on 28 July 2026 and is due back before the same bench on 4 August.
Kent Police arrested Jones on 27 July following an investigation by Canterbury officers. According to Kent Police, the alleged thefts span four incidents between 5 and 13 June 2026 — at TX Maxx in Canterbury, Aldi on Sturry Road in Canterbury, Tesco Express in Herne Bay, and Sainsbury’s in Whitstable. Clothes, meat and alcohol are among the goods reported to have been stolen, according to Kent Police.
Two of the eight charges relate to assaults: one involving alleged threats to a security guard, another to a member of the public who allegedly tried to intervene, according to Kent Police. A public order charge stems from a separate alleged disturbance at Northgate car park in Canterbury on 24 July. The eighth charge — racially aggravated harassment — concerns comments reportedly made to a police officer while Jones was in custody.
Jones appeared before Margate Magistrates’ Court on 28 July 2026, where he was remanded in custody. He is due to appear before the same court on 4 August 2026. He has been charged but has not been convicted of any offence.
