A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with a head injury after a racially aggravated assault in Canterbury city centre on 15 July 2026. Kent Police want to identify a man caught on CCTV who may be able to help their inquiry.
According to Kent Police, the incident occurred at around 6.45pm on Northgate. It is reported that the victim was walking along Northgate when he became aware of an unknown man walking in the same direction. Both turned into Broad Street. It is reported that the unknown person made racially aggravated comments about the victim before assaulting him. The unknown man then left in the direction of St Gregory’s Road. The victim had been walking alone and did not know the man involved in the incident.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with a head injury and was later discharged.
Investigators have worked through several lines of enquiry and have obtained a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to. Kent Police have described him as someone who may hold important information — he is not identified as a suspect. He has not yet been identified.
The public appeal was published on 17 August 2026, and police are keen to hear from anyone who recognises the man in the image.
