A former Gravesend resident has been jailed for 21 years after secretly filming 39 people — 21 of them children — over roughly two decades, and raping and sexually assaulting multiple victims. Alan Davies, 45, pleaded guilty to 73 separate offences at Maidstone Crown Court on 31 July 2026. The judge ordered he must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before parole can even be considered, with a further seven years on licence after release.
The investigation started in December 2024 when a victim reported she had been repeatedly raped and abused by Davies when she was young. Kent Police seized his devices and found hundreds of secretly recorded videos spanning about 20 years, the earliest dating back to 2004. Three further victims, who had been contacted by officers, confirmed they had also been sexually assaulted by him. Officers found around 900 child abuse images in his possession, and evidence he had been engaged in an obscene online conversation discussing child sex offences.
Davies had hidden recording devices wherever he knew victims were likely to undress. One recovered clip showed him installing a camera himself. Some of the footage was shared with others online.
Twenty years. And throughout it all, his victims had no idea.
Detective Constable Katie Poulter, the investigating officer, described the recordings as a “shocking intrusion into the privacy” of 39 adults and children. “Alan Davies is a dangerous sex offender whose crimes have had a long-lasting impact on the lives of the victims he abused,” she said. His two decades of offending and decision to share material online showed he “did not care or regret what he was doing” — but he will now, Poulter noted, “spend many years in prison where he will be able to cause no further harm to innocent people.”
