Kent Fire and Rescue lifts smoke warning after building fire near Wormshill

Residents and motorists near The Street in Wormshill, Sittingbourne are no longer being advised to close windows and doors after Kent Fire and Rescue Service brought a building fire under control.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) has lifted its advice for people living or travelling near The Street in Wormshill, Sittingbourne, to keep windows and doors closed, after a building fire produced a large plume of smoke over the area. The service confirmed the change via its official @kentfirerescue social media account.

Multiple crews attended the blaze on The Street, with hose-reel jets and main jets were used to tackle the fire, according to KFRS. No injuries have been reported, and KFRS has confirmed there are no reported injuries.

KFRS routinely issues close-windows-and-doors advice when large smoke plumes affect nearby homes or roads, withdrawing it once crews assess that smoke levels have reduced sufficiently. The service advises that once smoke is no longer visible or detectable, properties should be ventilated, but windows and doors should be closed again if smoke returns.
