Kent Police urges public to report inappropriate fireworks ahead of Bonfire Night

Kent Police has called on residents to report fireworks being used inappropriately and to dial 999 where there is an immediate emergency.

The force posted a public-safety message on social media ahead of 5 November, directing people to use its online reporting route for concerns about irresponsible firework use. The message made clear that 999 remains the appropriate number where there is an emergency.

Under current legislation, fireworks must not generally be set off between 11pm and 7am, though on Bonfire Night this extends to midnight, and on New Year’s Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year to 1am. Fireworks sold to the public must meet legal safety requirements, and category F2 and F3 fireworks may only be supplied to people aged 18 or over.

Fireworks used irresponsibly can cause injuries, fires, property damage and distress to people and animals. Police involvement may be appropriate where fireworks are being used dangerously, causing damage or contributing to antisocial behaviour.
