Kieran O’Rourke, 21, has been charged with murder, attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent following the death of Ashley Jones, 52, after an alleged knife incident near Ramsgate harbour in the early hours of 23 August 2026. He has not yet entered a plea and has not been convicted of any offence.
Kent Police were called to Harbour Street and Harbour Parade at around 4.47am on Sunday 23 August 2026 after reports of a man with a knife near the harbour area. Two men were taken to hospital with injuries consistent with stab wounds, according to Kent Police. Ashley Jones, 52, was later pronounced deceased. The second victim, aged 48, has since been released from hospital.
Kieran O’Rourke, 21, of Seafield Mews, Ramsgate, was arrested shortly after the incident. The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised charges of murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, attempted murder, and possession of a bladed article in a public place against him. It is alleged he was responsible for the incident. O’Rourke is due to appear before Margate Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 26 August 2026.
A 45-year-old man was also identified as a third victim as part of the investigation, according to Kent Police, although he did not sustain any injuries.
Kent Police confirmed the charges at 09:12 on 26 August 2026. The investigation continues.
