Medway Council has published its 2025–2028 Climate Change Action Plan, targeting net zero by 2050 and aiming to build resilience against the effects of a changing climate.

Medway Council declared a climate emergency in April 2019. The new plan, covering 2025 to 2028, sets out the council’s approach for the next three years.

The plan has two main aims: cutting greenhouse-gas emissions and making Medway more resilient to the effects of a changing climate. It sits under the One Medway Council Plan 2024–2028, specifically the priority around clean, green, safe and connected communities.

The council says residents stand to benefit in concrete ways — lower household bills, cleaner air, healthier soil, more secure water and food supplies, improved health and wellbeing, and reduced social isolation. Job creation, economic growth and reduced congestion are also cited.
