Andrea Kimi Antonelli claimed his fourth victory of the 2026 Formula 1 season at the Canadian Grand Prix, leading Mercedes to another commanding performance at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. The young German driver, starting from second position, completed the 70-lap race in 1 hour, 28 minutes and 15.758 seconds, also securing the fastest lap. Lewis Hamilton delivered an impressive drive to second place for Ferrari, whilst Max Verstappen rounded out the podium in third for Red Bull.

The race witnessed several remarkable performances throughout the field, with Hamilton producing the standout drive of the afternoon by advancing from fifth on the grid to claim the runner-up position, finishing 10.768 seconds behind Antonelli. Verstappen similarly impressed with his recovery from sixth to third, though he remained 11.276 seconds adrift of the race winner. Further down the order, Carlos Sainz demonstrated Williams’ improved competitiveness by climbing ten positions from 15th on the grid to ninth place, whilst Oliver Bearman secured the final points position for Haas F1 Team after starting from 16th. Franco Colapinto also delivered a strong performance for Alpine F1 Team, gaining four positions from tenth to sixth place.

Lewis Hamilton’s second-place finish marked a significant result for the seven-time world champion, who continues to adapt to his new surroundings at Ferrari. The British driver’s three-position gain from the grid demonstrated both his racecraft and Ferrari’s improved pace at the Canadian venue. Hamilton’s 18-point haul moves him to fourth in the drivers’ championship standings with 72 points, closing the gap to teammate Charles Leclerc, who sits third with 75 points despite a more subdued eighth-to-fourth progression in Montreal.

Antonelli’s latest triumph extends his championship lead to 43 points over Mercedes teammate George Russell, who failed to score points in Canada. The Italian-German driver’s commanding form has established Mercedes as the dominant force in both championships, with the Silver Arrows now holding a 72-point advantage over Ferrari in the constructors’ standings. Red Bull’s struggles continued as they remain fourth in the team championship with just 57 points, whilst McLaren occupy third position despite neither Lando Norris nor Oscar Piastri featuring in the points-paying positions at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
