Andrea Kimi Antonelli claimed victory for Mercedes at the Spanish Grand Prix, held at the Madring circuit in Madrid on 13 September 2026, to extend his commanding lead at the summit of the Drivers’ Championship. The Italian driver completed the race distance in one hour, thirty-four minutes and 23.754 seconds, with Max Verstappen of Red Bull finishing 4.351 seconds adrift in second place. Lando Norris completed the podium in third for McLaren, a further 0.738 seconds behind Verstappen.

Norris had started from pole position but was unable to convert that advantage into victory, slipping to third by the conclusion of proceedings. Antonelli, who began from second on the grid, made the decisive move to take the lead and was not headed thereafter. Charles Leclerc produced one of the more notable drives of the afternoon, advancing two places from fifth on the grid to finish fourth, whilst George Russell — who started sixth — claimed fifth and recorded the race’s fastest lap. The most significant positional gain among the top ten came from Liam Lawson, who moved forward two places from eighth to sixth for Red Bull, with Franco Colapinto similarly advancing two positions from ninth to seventh for Alpine F1 Team.

Of the British drivers to finish inside the top ten, Lando Norris delivered the most prominent result, converting his pole position into a podium finish despite ultimately being unable to resist the pace of Antonelli and Verstappen. The McLaren driver crossed the line 5.089 seconds behind the race winner, collecting fifteen points in the process. George Russell and Arvid Lindblad also represented British interests in the top ten, finishing fifth and ninth respectively, with Russell’s fastest lap adding a further footnote to a solid afternoon for British competitors at the Madring circuit.

Antonelli’s victory consolidates his position at the head of the Drivers’ Championship with 292 points, a margin of 81 points over his Mercedes team-mate George Russell, who remains second on 211 points. Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari sits third on 191 points, with Norris a further five points behind in fourth on 186. In the Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes continue to lead with authority on 503 points, with Ferrari second on 358 and McLaren third on 306. Red Bull, whose double points finish through Verstappen and Lawson yielded 26 points, remain fourth on 230 points, though the gap to the leading teams remains substantial as the season progresses.
