Andrea Kimi Antonelli claimed a commanding victory at the Italian Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza on Sunday, 6 September 2026, delivering a result of considerable significance for the Mercedes team on home soil for their engine partner. Antonelli crossed the line in a race time of one hour, 51 minutes and 15.281 seconds, with team-mate George Russell finishing 3.857 seconds adrift in second place. Max Verstappen completed the podium for Red Bull, a further 14.718 seconds behind the leader.

The most remarkable drive of the afternoon belonged to Antonelli himself, who began the race from nineteenth place on the grid and carved through the field to take the victory — a gain of eighteen positions over the course of the race. The Italian also set the fastest lap of the grand prix. Pierre Gasly, who had started from pole position for Alpine F1 Team, ultimately fell to seventh by the flag, suggesting a difficult afternoon for the Frenchman after what had promised to be a strong result. Lewis Hamilton, racing for Ferrari, finished sixth after starting fourth, whilst Lando Norris took fourth for McLaren from eighth on the grid. Arvid Lindblad rounded out the British contingent in the points, finishing eighth for RB F1 Team.

The result has significant implications for the Drivers’ Championship. Antonelli now leads on 267 points, extending his advantage over Russell, who moves to 201 points — a gap of 66 points with the season past its midpoint. Lewis Hamilton remains third on 191 points, keeping Ferrari’s challenge alive, whilst Norris sits fourth on 171 points. In the Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes consolidate their position at the summit on 468 points, with Ferrari second on 346 and McLaren third on 287. Red Bull, despite Verstappen’s podium, remain fourth on 204 points, leaving the constructors’ battle firmly a contest between the top three teams as the season continues.
